Alicia and Rosie bring their brother, Alejandro, home from being incarcerated for over a decade. Their joyful reunion, however, is threatened by the lingering effects of the prison industrial complex. Despite the new challenges they face navigating parole, they reconnect and strengthen their unbreakable family bonds.

Going Home, 2024

It all started when…

My brother was first released on parole after serving a ten year sentence. My family and I had no idea the amount of control and power the Prison Industrial Complex would still have over our lives for years to come. This film follows a family that has been broken by the effects of incarceration on the day of their brother’s release. They quickly realize this bitter sweet moment of freedom is the beginning of a new battle to keep him home.

Director’s Statement…

It is my hope that this film shines light on the millions of families impacted by the prison industrial complex in the US and beyond. By focusing on the humanity of these characters, this story explores the challenges faced after the release date, after you bring them home from the nightmare that you hope stays in the past only to be introduced to new fears of losing them again. Unless you have an inmate loved one, it is difficult to understand just how unbelievably easy it is to get caught up in the system again and how much the odds are stacked against you once you reach parole. This film is a small glimpse into that hopeful and yet fearful existence. I hope this brings about empathy to all those with a criminal background who are desperately trying to better themselves in this harsh world and to all their loved ones fighting to protect them.
